URBAN CONCEPTS RECENT ACTIVITY: NLC’s Leadership Academy on Local Economic Competitiveness in a Global Era Tuesday, April 19 – Thursday, April 21, 2011 Seattle, Washington The National League of Cities (NLC), together with the Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle (TDA), will host a new Leadership Academy on Local Economic Competitiveness in a Global Era. The Academy will bring together teams of city elected officials, staff, and key stakeholders with experts from all levels of government, academic, and business sectors to provide participants with the tools and knowledge they need to facilitate global economic linkages within the context of their own community. As part of the event, NLC is also partnering with the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Treasury to host a delegation of approximately 90 Chinese leaders, including mayors and business executives from Chongqing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xian, Taizhou (in Jiangsu province) and Weifang (in Shandong province). U.S. local officials will have the opportunity, in a session facilitated by the Department of Commerce, to directly engage with nearly 20 foreign businesses seeking job-creating investment opportunities in U.S. cities.
